David Macias

CEO/Chairman

 

Mr. Macias (59), is a 25-year Veteran of the Physical Energy and Commodities business, with extensive management training experience, owning Physical Trading Company Sunshine Energy & Commodities, Inc. (SEC). Positioned as a Trade Financier, Trader, and Supplier, Advises, Consults, and Markets Crude Oils and various Petroleum-Based products including Fuel Oil, Petcoke, Coal, and other Commodities worldwide. Our Business is in Trading Physical Bulk Cargos of Commodities. SEC is well-positioned in all aspects of Physical Commodities Global Trading in cargos. This includes access to Logistics of Bulk Vessels/Tankers and strategically located Storage Tank Facilities to Supply at various Refineries/Producers/Mills, and a Network of Qualified Institutional Buying Entities and End Users Globally. Through our long-established industry relationships, we Buy/Sell only directly from Owners and Producers of Products, and are registered and Trade with mostly Major Producers, Mines, Refineries, Steel Mills, and Cement Producers including several globally recognized Trading Firms, allowing for institutional pricing for wholesale distribution.

Currently, SEC has grown a large Agribusiness with Colombian Sugar Producers and both Colombian and Venezuelan ( Crossisland ) Coffee Growers.

Mr. Macias additionally has 11 years of Renewable Energy Project experience. Formerly was Chairman of the Board and CEO of Upower Group, Inc. as of May 2013. Upower is a Renewable Energy Developer of Solar Projects Internationally focused on building Utility-Scale Solar Plants through Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA's) with Governments or National Electric Companies Worldwide. Upower signed via Upower Honduras a PPA with The Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE), the Honduran Government owned Electric Company on January 2014 to develop what became Latin America's Largest Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant to date, funded by The World Bank as Project 8404 as Upower Honduras for $232mm and fully operational on Honduras' west coast city of Nacaome.

From October 2011 to December 2014, Mr. Macias was Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance and a shareholder of Hydro Alternative Energy, Inc., a Florida corporation specializing in the development of Hydroelectric and Hydrokinetic power generation with a Patented Ocean Turbine named “Oceanus”.

Mr. Macias also brings over 30 years of Wall Street financial experience. Credentials include a successful career managing over $400,000,000 in Assets Under Management in the Financial Markets for over 3,500 Clients. Multi-Million Dollar Private Capital Raises and participation in Bringing Public over 154 Publicly Traded Companies since 1987.  Mr. Macias was a registered and licensed brokerage Financial Advisor until 2013, retiring from the business as 75% Owner of a boutique investment bank and financial advisory brokerage firm Pacific Pearl Group and Pangaea Capital of Pasadena, CA and West Palm Beach, FL.. Mr. Macias began his career in 1987 at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Macias served in various capacities as a Senior Vice President (“SVP”) of several different FINRA member broker dealer firms, after receiving his Series 7 and 63 stock brokerage licenses. These included: Shearson Lehman Hutton, D.H. Blair & Co., GKN Securities, Gruntal & Co., and Sterling Financial Investment Group. In 1992, Mr. Macias was instrumental in the initial launch, creation, distribution, and capital raising efforts of the initial launch of the new financial instrument named a "SPAC" (Special-Purpose Acquisition Company).

Special Interests and Education

 

Through the encouragement of his late Father, Israel Izzy Macias, a Master Electrician responsible for the joy of millions of people, spearheading the efforts for 30 plus years at Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall and its famous Christmas Tree Lighting. Mr. Macias was a recipient of the national 4-year full tuition Rockefeller Group Scholarship Program based on his academic achievements at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Macias then graduated from Brooklyn College, a City University of New York, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business, Management, and Finance with a minor in Spanish in 1989. Mr. Macias is very active in various social and charitable activities with his Mother Irene Macias as his inspiration as 15-year metastasized cancer survivor, who unfortunately passed away as well in 2016, yet continues organizing Breast Cancer Awareness events, hosting Pink Ribbon Parties, and a major contributor to No Small Affair, a charitable organization in which he is active in arranging for and chaperoning underprivileged children to football, baseball, and basketball games with the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and Miami Heat respectively.

Felipe Saavedra

VP of Marketing and Sales

 

Mr. Saavedra has been a Trade Executive and VP of Marketing & Sales for SEC since 2021.

 

Felipe has facilitated the introduction of various customer relationships for international trade and commerce for the firm since joining Sunshine Energy & Commodities.

Felipe has been instrumental in expanding the firm’s global footprint by orchestrating high-value international trade and commerce initiatives, including:

  • Strategic Global Partnerships: Orchestrated the introduction and onboarding of key international clients, significantly expanding SEC’s global trading network.

  • Executive Collaboration: Has worked directly under the tutelage of the CEO/Chairman to align marketing and sales strategies with the firm’s overarching commodities trading goals.

  • Market Expansion: Drive international trade initiatives by identifying emerging market trends and capitalizing on cross-border commercial opportunities.

  • Client Retention & Growth: Manage top-tier client accounts, ensuring seamless execution of trade contracts and long-term retention.

Jorge Aizcorbe

VP of Corporate Finance

Mr. Aizcorbe, is a proven leader with 30 years as a Pioneer in the Solar Energy industry. Having worked as a Strategic Consultant, Investment Banker, and Investor, his divested set of experiences have provided the ability to fuse operational strategy and corporate finance to maximize value creation.

 

Formerly Managing Director at RedRock Energy Ventures, Inc..

Jorge has deployed several hundred Megawatts of successful utility scale projects to date, in addition to being Founder of Principal Solar, Inc.. Mr. Aizcorbe was former President of Upower, a renewable energy developer of Solar Projects Internationally focused on Utility-Scale Solar Plants.

Mr. Aizcorbe recently raised capital for the largest lithium brine project in the USA.

Mr. Aizcorbe is an Investment Banker for over 30 years. Worked at W.R. Grace & Co., one of the first true conglomerate corporations in the USA in Corporate Development and Merger & Acquisitions. Mr. Aizcorbe has structured numerous successful transactions for clients such as Madison Dearborn Partners, Bechtel Corporation, Chase Capital Partners, Scott’s Miracle Grow, Hunt Corporation, as their Investment Banker.

 

Mr. Aizcorbe and Family were instrumental in the Real Estate development of several Cities and Communities, including Wellington, FL (WPB) and Palm Beach Point.

Ronald Keen

VP of Trade Finance

Ronald Keen is a seasoned finance professional with more than 20 years of experience in  lending, underwriting analysis, transaction review, and client-facing capital advisory. He has extensive experience structuring financial presentations, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with lenders, investors, attorneys, and high-net-worth clients through complex, time-sensitive transactions.

At Sunshine Energy & Commodities, Mr. Keen supports the firm’s physical commodities and trade finance initiatives with a focus on capital partner engagement, due diligence coordination, transaction presentation, and investor communication. His finance background provides practical value in transactions involving petroleum products, bulk commodities, logistics, storage, and short-cycle trade finance opportunities.

Mr. Keen is skilled at translating complex financial structures into clear, credible narratives for family offices, private investors, institutional capital partners, and strategic counterparties. His approach is centered on professionalism, risk awareness, and execution.

Geoff Bright

VP of Planning and Business Development

Geoff has been actively involved in the shipping & trading sectors for more than 30 years. In 1981 he joined The John Bull Group of Companies and became Managing Director of the newly formed Britannia Liner Services which he built from scratch and under his leadership quickly became a mainstream player in the UK liner agency & forwarding industry culminating in key appointments with several major shipping lines which remain with the management to this day. Geoff has worked for a number of trading entities and managed their operations including, steel trading, steel scrap, coal trading, non-ferrous metals coal processing and terminal operations which were all linked to a wide range of trade on the global markets. Geoff has extensive experience in setting up, building, formulating corporate strategy and direction for global trade and consequently has the ability to be a key player in any such organization.

Robert J. Dillon

VP of Shipping and Logistics

Robert John Dillon is the President of John F. Dillon & Co., LLC (www.JFD.com) in Norwalk, CT.  Robert joined JFD in the spring of 1982 and spent time in the Tokyo freight markets during his formative years (1983-1986).   He has served as the President of JFD since January 1st of 2000.  He has also been a board member of the Association of Shipbrokers & Agents of North America since 1996.  JFD was founded in 1965 as the leading dry cargo brokerage firm in the North American freight market.  JFD ships dry cargo commodities globally including iron ore, coal, grains, steel, petroleum coke, sugar, salt, and fertilizers.  Its team of highly professional and experienced freight advisors and brokers have extensive experience in the logistics of moving dry cargo from the point of origin to the point of destination, including but not limited to the contractual terms and nuances surrounding each different trade.  The company maintains two offices in Norwalk, CT USA and Shanghai, China.

William Rodriquez

VP of Colombian and LATAM Ops

Mr. Rodríguez has a specialization in Marketing and Customer Service Management earned at the Universidad San Martin de Colombia. With more than 10 years of experience in the commodities sector, Mr. Rodríguez serves customers and suppliers throughout the Latin American region. Rodríguez also has a specialization in Logistics, Transportation, and Customs & Cargo Security of raw materials, including Coal, Iron Ore, Petcoke and Crude Oil.
